The PC is not dead

Stacy Smith Intel,(Nasdaq) CFO, recently presented at the Global Citi Technology Conference. Key messages: "we see the demand that is unprecedented for computing out there."

Smith said the chipmaker has available market is growing dramatically, such fundamental changes going on right now where the computing device and connect to the Internet. This trend, in turn, encourage growth in the PC and server markets. And we're not talking small potatoes here; Intel estimates that in the next five years, the market will grow from hundreds of millions billions of unit to unit.

There is an economic phenomenon that drives this growth: in some emerging markets, the average income for weeks that it takes the consumer to be able to buy the computer decreases rapidly.

In China, for example, it is 175 weeks average income for people who are able to buy a computer in 1995. But Chinese income levels have risen, and the cost of technology has decreased. In 2010, it is less than eight weeks the average income for Chinese consumers to be able to buy a computer. This is fundamental change.

Penetration of the market in percentage of the population – who have a computer–up like a week income go down. It is expected-as technology becomes more affordable, more people in the market to buy the technology.
