Surfboard traction pads were introduced in the world of surfing in the 1980 's by the famous surf brand Astrodeck. Traction pads was marketed as a successful business by icon Herbie Fletcher, after Slip-check, the previous solution was presented by Tom Morey, failed to cope with global clients.
Until the late 1970s, surf wax is the only way to avoid slippery surfing performances while reducing the perfect wave. Traction pads were created to set up a new relationship between the surfers and their boards.
Fletcher developed equipment in the laboratory of traction pad itself, by testing a few options, and sold the first surf deck in his shop. In the second half of the 1970s, improved traction pad formula. The leaves have the glue and tape polyurethane, some color, pattern and the sayings of the iconic surf.
"I see it as the last part of my job form by adding a kick, the arches and a different pattern of the surface to the end of the grip and control, until the design evolved into legs high-performance patented multigrid key pad today", explains Herbie Fletcher at Astrodeck.com.
Astrodeck is a symbol of the culture of surfing and the 80 's surfers love it. In some cases, surfers select traction pads under their feet and left a candle on the shelf. Surfboard traction pad fever cooled in the late 90 's, but never disappear completely.
