East GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM)-East Grand Rapids Public Schools soon will need a laptop or iPads in their high schools. This is a program that may be met with controversy. But, the District said it was the only way to provide the best education for their students.
Laptop won't replace books, but will be used as an additional tool in the classroom. "They could together online is much easier than they ever could as they work with only pen and paper," says Heather McKinney-Rewa. He taught languages in the United Kingdom HIGH EGR. He has one of the twelve pilot class, where the computer is used as a tool for learning. Students still read books. But, in the classroom, they answer questions about the story online and discuss as a group. Even outside the classroom, students use them for homework.
"It is the real world. That is how students work. So, we try to make that real environment for our students, and one of our tools that will help students see the laptop, netbook, the ipad, you name it, "said Assistant Superintendent EGRPS teaching, Jeanne Glowicki.
Students will have four options. They can use their laptops already have at home, hire a laptop than buying a laptop from school, school, or there will be a scholarship program for those who can't afford one.
The district wants everyone to be able to have a laptop. They think the best way to do this is to share the cost. Students buy or rent laptops and districts invest in infrastructure and staff training.
